Trustees

Mike Sleigh, having been a Trustee since 1991, is now the Chairman of the Trust.  He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1969 and has had a commercial management role with a local business over the intervening years.  Mike is semi-retired.  He also had a non-executive role as a Director of Shropshire’s Community NHS Trust from 1993 to 1998.

 

Doreen Roberts has been a Trustee since 2022.  She has always lived in the Ellesmere area and worked for Shropshire Council for 25 years as a carer for the elderly.  After retiring she joined the League of Friends as a volunteer.  The league of friends’ aim is to support other groups and people within Ellesmere and also support The Ellesmere Community Care centre. Doreen has been the Chairperson of the local League of Friends branch for the last 4 years and continues to help in the League of Friends shop. 


Sheila Stringer lives locally and joined the Ellesmere Community Care Centre Trust in September 2021.  Sheila is a Physiotherapist and before retiring was a senior manager in the NHS for many years.    She was both the professional and managerial lead for Therapy Services, her role encompassing Service Development, Governance and Quality Improvement.  Sheila is also a Parish Councillor in the ward of Welshampton and Lyneal. 


Frederick Williams joined the Ellesmere Community Care Centre Trust in September 2021.He is a retired schoolmaster, teaching Design Technology in Leicester, Wrekin College and Ellesmere College. He was Commissioned in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve serving as Squadron Commander and Contingent Commander in both the Air Training Corps and the Combined Cadet Force. Fred is a former President of the Rotary Club of Ellesmere, Ellesmere Probus Club and the Ellesmere Society. He is a keen gardener and walker, enjoying DIY and tinkering with old cars.

Lt Col Terry Lowry FCIS spent 30 years in the British Army serving in the Royal Army Pay Corps which latterly became the Adjutant General’s Corps. Served in UK, N Ireland, BAOR, Falkland Islands and a very short trip to Riyadh. Specialist role was financial but also included tours involving both Staff Duties and Intelligence.
Terry retired from the Army in 1993 and was appointed Bursar of Ellesmere College. Served for 13 years before retiring for the second time.
He took on the role of Business Director of the Barnstondale Centre on the Wirral – a children’s charity – before retiring after 5 years – and for the final time.
Currently Governor of the Lakelands Academy, Trustee of the Ellesmere Community Care Centre and Independent Examiner of a number of charitable accounts.


Rev Pat Hawkins has been vicar of St Mary's Church Ellesmere since February 2020 and joined the Ellesmere Community Care Trust in 2021.  Over her working life she has been involved with a variety of community projects and enterprises.  She has previous experience as a charity trustee and also of responsibility for historic buildings.


David Reffell spent his working life in education, specialising in pastoral roles both in Shropshire independent schools and in schools in West and East Africa. 
He is a Trustee of the Chaucer Heritage Trust and volunteers as a Samaritan Listening volunteer in Shrewsbury. David also serves on the PCC at St Mary’s Church, Ellesmere and is Chair of the Fundraising Group at the church. He joined the Ellesmere Community Care Trust in 2021.
